Grief is a universal human experience—and yet, it is often met with silence, isolation, or avoidance. Our Sanctuary Wind Phone offers a sacred space where people can speak their grief aloud, in their own time, in their own words, without judgment or interruption.

In May 2025, the Grievers Library installed its first Wind Phone, located in the same Seattle cemetery where we have also sited a little grief library, in order to offer a rare public sanctuary where grievers can privately connect with loved ones who have died.

The Sanctuary Wind Phone is nestled beneath a towering cedar tree in the northwest corner of Crown Hill Cemetery (8712 12th Ave NW). Open from dawn to dusk, the cemetery invites visitors to follow a grassy path to a vintage rotary phone housed in a hand-built wooden booth.

Designed, constructed and installed by fine woodworker Wayne Myers, the structure was crafted from reclaimed and donated materials. The vintage rotary wall phone was generously donated by Dabney Youtz.
